Chilling in Boston: Introducing the IceBÖKZ

Box+Foam will officially launch its patent-pending IceBÖKZ™ at Seafood Expo North America / Seafood Processing North America, the largest seafood trade event in North America.

IceBÖKZ inventor Kurt Rozek will be demonstrating how the system works and explaining how the design improves upon traditional insulated insert systems commonly used in cold-chain shipping.

“Make it simple, effective, and environmentally manageable. Challenges are just opportunities waiting for somebody to be clever.”
— Kurt Rozek, Inventor of IceBÖKZ

Rethinking Insulated Packaging

The IceBÖKZ was developed to address several persistent challenges associated with traditional insulation inserts. While inserts perform well thermally and are available in a wide range of materials — including recyclable and compostable options — they often create operational challenges.

Traditional insulated packaging systems typically require multiple insert pieces that must be assembled inside the box. This can slow down packing operations, require teams to manage multiple components, and make inventory management difficult when different box sizes require different insert configurations.

IceBÖKZ simplifies this process.

How IceBÖKZ Works

The IceBÖKZ design uses a patent-pending closure system that positively connects the panels of the box, creating an integrated insulated structure that is fast and intuitive to assemble.

Key advantages include:

  • Ships Compactly

    • IceBÖKZ ships in roughly the same volume as the insulation inserts alone

    • Compact design reduces shipping costs

  • Simple and Fast Assembly

    • Intuitive design allows IceBÖKZto be ready for tape in less than 15 seconds

  • Simplified packing operations & storage

    • Fewer components to manage

    • Reduced storage requirements

    • Faster, more consistent packing workflows

Industry Collaboration

Joining Box+Foam at the booth will be Bill Alcorn, founder of Bikeflights, who is launching a new venture built around the IceBÖKZ platform. The new service will leverage Bikeflights’ expertise in shipping logistics to help small businesses and individuals ship temperature-sensitive products.

Alcorn believes the same logistics model that has helped cyclists reliably ship bikes around the world can translate to cold-chain packaging and shipping solutions.
