What is a Box Maker’s Certificate?

Printed on the outside of a box flap, the Box Maker’s Certificate (BMC) verifies the strength and construction of the corrugated board used to make the box. The information on this label helps determine whether a box is appropriate for a particular application.

Common elements include:

Burst Test – The pressure required to rupture the board, indicating how well the box can withstand rough handling.

Combined Weight of Facings – A measure related to the board’s ability to support weight and maintain stacking strength.

Size Limit – The maximum box dimensions that maintain the board’s rated strength.

Gross Weight Limit – The maximum recommended weight of contents the box can safely hold.
